Hospice
First Choice Hospice is a locally owned and operated company that has been serving the Treasure Valley since 2009. We are accredited by The Joint Commission and are a partner in the We Honor Veterans Program. Our focus is on hiring and developing a hospice team that is Hospice and Palliative Care Certified. We have a dedicated staff for evenings and weekends and provide specialty programs for our hospice patients and their families. Most importantly, we do not limit the amount of time our hospice staff spends with each patient; it is based on the needs of the individuals we serve.
According to the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, Hospice is considered to be the model for quality and compassionate care for people facing a life-limiting illness or injury. Hospice and palliative care involve a team-oriented approach to provide expert medical care, pain management, emotional and spiritual support, tailored to the patient’s needs and wishes. Support is provided to the patient’s loved ones as well.
The focus of hospice relies on the belief that each of us has the right to die pain-free and with dignity. The focus is on the quality of life that is left to live and not the quantity. It is a mindset of caring, not curing.
Hospice care is for any person who has a life-limiting illness or injury, and has a prognosis of six months or less if the illness runs its normal course. Many individuals live longer than six months and yet they may still qualify for hospice care.

Hospice care can be initiated by any person with the consent of the patient and/or their power of attorney. Hospice can evaluate if the individual is appropriate for hospice care. To start hospice services, we would need to obtain an order from the patient’s attending Physician, and evaluate the appropriateness for hospice services according to Medicare guidelines.
